User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/3.6.3 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100526 Thunderbird/3.1 It looks like this bug manifests in several ways. The only windows I've found that do this are the update checker window and the compose window. The windows that cause this problem have no menu items besides the main Thunderbird menu. This prevents the Cmd+1 from opening the main compose window Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open the update checker window or compose window when sending a message 2. Attempt to re-open the main Thunderbird window by using the cmd+1 shortcut Actual Results: The main Thunderbird window doesn't open. Expected Results: The main Thunderbird window should have appeared.

Susurrus do you have lightning installed? it seems No: it's true?
No, I do have a few addons installed. I'll try to reproduce this tonight when I'm back at my computer and disable any addons.

Susurrus, do you still see this?

Yep this bug still exists, but only if the About window is open, it's fine for the compose window. To reproduce: Open Thunderbird's main window Open the About window Minimize the main window Now the only way to reopen the main window is to right-click on the app in the dock and click on "Inbox" as the Cmd+1 option doesn't work. Really I would expect the Window menu to still be shown when the About window is displayed.

I can confirm that many Thunderbird windows, including the About window, remove all menus from the Mac OS menu bar, rendering command-key sequences such as Cmd-1 and even Cmd-W inoperative. I also know that Mac OS X 10.4 sometimes refuses to present a window when switching between applications, but this appears to be system-wide, not limited to Mozilla-based apps. I cannot speak on the specific version of TB, nor of any OS version past 10.4, nor the behavior on any Intel machine. I know the Dock changed after 10.4, so this may be inapplicable to later OS versions, but I can restore a minimized window from the Dock regardless of the presence of a Window menu.

I confirm that the main menu File - Edit - View - Go - Message ... etc is not displayed and all keyboard shortcuts are disabled when either the "About Thunderbird" box or the Preferences panel is open and in the foreground. (Remember that in Mac OS X the application main menus are displayed at the top of the screen and not a part of a Thunderbird window.) A click on the main window or closing "About Thunderbird" and/or the Preferences panel brings back the main menu. Or, with the "About Thunderbird" box or the Preferences panel still open and the main window minimized in the Dock, a simple left-click on the Dock icon gets the main window back on the screen in the foreground, at the same time the main menu appears again. It seems to be a question of focus: "About Thunderbird" box or preferences panel in the foreground means hidden main menu and disabled keyboard shortcuts.

I don't see this as significantly improving TB's capability on Mac, so removing the meta.
