Currently on QMO the search box has poor visibility as it is has a thin border (i.e., 1px) and the button has a white background on white QMO background. To improve visibility, I suggest moving the search input box to the QMO header after the Docs tab and before the RSS feed tab, see attached screenshot.

This might work better once users have accounts as we're currently showing the administration options underneath the search box (when people are logged in).
