I have just setup a new mailbox with Mozilla. When I select "Get Messages for
Account" for the mail account, I do not see all the messages. It appears that
the messages are not being downloaded. I have multiple mailboxes setup. I know
the messages are there, I can see them with a webmail client.

Match Grun, we're going to need more informationhere. What type of account was
it IMAP or POP? Were you prompted for a password? Have you had any luck with
previous builds or is this your first attempt at setting up mail.

Ok, I was attempting to retrieve POP mail.
This is the first time that I set up a mail account because previous Mozilla
milestones had funky GUI rendering and was too unstable for me. I like M18 a lot
and look forward to completion of stuff like encryption being included.
Anyway, M18 still has funky rendering of the GUI, but I am more concerned that
mail is not being retrieved from the server. I am waiting to replace the old
Netscape 4.7x mail client with Mozilla.
I have tested with other mail clients. With these clients I can see the mail, I
can read the mail. However, this is not always the case with M18. There must be
some problem with the actual retrieval of the mail message from the server.

Match Grun, it's been some time now, do you still see this problem with a more
recent build? (http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla/nightly) As far as I can tell,
I have multiple pop accouts, and they work just fine. When you retrieve your
mails with the webwail, are you sure the webmail leaves the messages on the
server? Also if it still doesn't work try with a brand new profile.
Thank you,
Fabian.

Ok. Eventually I got back to testing this one.
1) I dowloaded the latest nightly build 2000120408 to resume testing.
2) Emptied the directory ~/.mozilla.
3) Let Mozilla initialize itself.
4) Select Task|Mail.
5) Create new mail account, using POP mail, for one of my other mail accounts.
Account is set to leave messages on server.
6) Retrieve mail messages. Mozilla reports total of 165 messages to download.
Messages download. Mozilla gets stuck on message 143 of 165.
7) Shutdown Mozilla.
8) Restart Mozilla (command line).
9) Task|Mail.
10) Select mail account, click on Inbox.
11) The following error is reported in Xterm window.
--------
in showthreads
mailbox://match@pop.techangle.com/Inbox
In ChangeFolderByURI uri = mailbox://match@pop.techangle.com/Inbox
Error loading with many headers to download: [Exception... "Component returned
failure code: 0xc1f30001 (NS_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED)
[nsIMsgFolder.updateFolder]" nsresult: "0xc1f30001 (NS_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED)"
location: "JS frame :: chrome://messenger/content/commandglue.js ::
ChangeFolderByURI :: line 194" data: no]
stopping meteors 1
--------
12) Shutdown and restart Mozilla.
13) Back to mail. It seems that the problems at 11 is not serious.
14) Since Mozilla did not download all mail. Click on Inbox. Click on
GetMessages.
15) Mozilla reports 23 messages to download.
16) From this point onwards, I cannot download any more new messages.
--------
I can retrieve mail Ok with StarOffice from the same mailbox. However, I really
want to use Mozilla for all my mail accounts.

Does your inbox has a special icon (i.e., is it a different icon from your other
mail folders?)
You might try doing pop3 protocol logging using the following instructions and
see if somethings going wrong on the server side:
http://www.mozilla.org/quality/mailnews/mail-troubleshoot.html#imap
If you do the logging, you could attach the log to this bug (it will have your
username in it, but the password should be ommitted - look it over to make sure
there's nothing you don't want public in it).

Here is what I did:
1) I checked the icon. It is the same as the other mail accounts.
2) I followed the instuctions for the log file. Mozilla created the log file
file. After pushing the Get Message button I waited for 15 minutes. There is a
log file. The bad news is that it is zero bytes long.
Sorry, not much help.

unable to reproduce with 121808 mozilla build on redhat6.2 connecting to my POP
account with preferences set to leave messages on the server.

Using commercial build 2000121804 on win98, I did not have any problems
retrieving messages from my pop account. I tried this on two different scenarios:
1. Created a pop account on an existing profile
-In accounts and settings
- checked the checkbox to leave messages on the server.
-Click on get message button.
-Passoword dlg-enter password click ok
-Retrieved all 118 messages that I had in this account
2.Create a new profile with pop account and followed the same steps mentioned in
scenario 1. All the messages were retrieved.
Am I missing any other information to recreate this problem other than using
commercial build. Let me know if you still having problems retreiving messages
for the pop account.Thanks

Ok, I installed the following build: 200121908 and tested again. The problem is
still there.
1). Removed /usr/local/mozilla and /usr/local/mozilla/packages. For some reason
each build I get seems to be installing in a differect directory.
2). Empty the ~/.mozilla directory.
3). Start Mozilla.
4). Remove all imported mail boxes.
5). Create a new mail box.
6). Get messages. I keep getting the same results. There are now 192 messages in
the mailbox. When I get to message #142, the mail client just sits there.
7). Kill mozilla.
8). Restart mozilla. Mozilla says 50 messages to download. It just sits on
message #1 (the same message causing problems in item 6 above).
There still seems to be a serious problem in mozilla with the code that is being
used for retrieval of the message. Maybe there is something in the message
contents that causes this to occur. Note that both StarOffice and Evolution
retrieved all messages correctly.
I used Evolution to save the messages that could have caused the problems. These
might help debugging the problem. If you can supply me a contact address, I
could tar these messages and mail to you.

I am going to go ahead and mark this NEW since it still seems to be occuring.
Hopefully this can help some of the engineers.

It could be the message content of your message(s). Can you provide the
protocol log that bienvenu suggests earlier in his comments?
Reporter | ||
Comment 16•24 years ago
|
||
I cannot supply you the protocol. Please refer to my comments of 2000-12-05
21:05. I performed all steps. A log file of zero bytes was created. Not much
help.
I have offered to supply mail messages that might have caused the problem (these
were retrieved with evolution). These messages might help you diagnose the
problem. I am still waiting for a contact address where I can mail these.

Match,
Copy all the messages to a folder and attach that folder to this bug as an
attachment. Thanks
