User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100611 Firefox/3.6.4 GTB7.1 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100611 Firefox/3.6.4 GTB7.1 Firefox crashes when used with the Foxit Reader extension to open up a .pdf file from the internet on the browser. I have checked it on various computers with both Windows 7 and Vista and with various versions of Firefox 3.6.4 and 3.6.3 but the problem is there with both the versions. Foxit Reader's extension works fine on Google Chrome opening up the .pdf files in split second. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Foxit Reader's extension included in the Foxit Reader's installation for firefox along with the Foxit Reader itself. 2. open up any .pdf file directly from the internet in Firefox. 3. Firefox will freeze and a error message will be displayed. Actual Results: An error message is shown which says firefox has stopped responding and click on 'Switch to' to solve the problem. Another button for retry is also shown. Firefox stops responding and all tabs are lost when closed from Windows Task Manager. Expected Results: The .pdf file should open up immediately in a seperate tab without making Firefox unstable. The problem is with the default theme and any personas.

Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; en-US; rv:1.9.2.4) Gecko/20100611 Firefox/3.6.4 Able to reproduce. Firefox stops responding and Clicking on "Switch to" or "Retry" opens the pdf. Able to reproduce in 3.6 and 3.6.2 versions also.
Firefox stops responding that is the main problem. All the tabs are locked up and momentarily everything freezes up until the message is displayed. I really think that this problem should be solved because twice i had to end Firefox process from Windows Task Manager to be able to use the computer again.
So, this is basically a bug in foxit reader. http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2010/06/firefox-3-6-4-now-available/ has instructions, about:plugins should give you the name of the plugin file, i think the pref would be: dom.ipc.plugins.enabled.npFoxitReaderPlugin.dll (set it from about config as a boolean to true) Please note that for 3.6.4 we haven't moved foxit reader out of process because we haven't tested it, so we can't guarantee it'll be better. However. If you want to work with us, we need a stack trace: https://developer.mozilla.org/En/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_windbg It'd also help if you actually indicated the version of Foxit Reader that you're using.

I have set dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to true in about:config page and now Foxit Reader's plugin is running smoothly. There was no separate setting explicitly for Foxit Reader so i have all plugins processes to be independent.
you can create a new pref by right clicking and selecting new>boolean...
Summary: Firefox crashes when Foxit Reader extension is used with Firefox for .pdf → Firefox hangs when Foxit Reader plugin is used with Firefox for .pdf
i created a new pref but it is not working now, the previous trick worked but not this one
Closing old bugs in the Plugins component. We aren't going to track issues in 3rd-party plugins in the Mozilla bug tracker. In addition, support for NPAPI plugins will be removed at the end of this year; for more details see the post at https://blog.mozilla.org/futurereleases/2015/10/08/npapi-plugins-in-firefox/ If there is a serious bug in Firefox, it needs to be filed in the "Core" product, "Plug-Ins" component.
