I click on a video to load (Zero Punctuation was the one that occurred for me this afternoon, however it happened when I tried RedVSBlue, as well as my news links for Engadget/Gizmodo).

I have made sure to have the latest FLASH version as well as FireFox before doing this report, I check these sites daily and only updated to v3.6.4 yesterday.

I also would like to note that it doesnt just crash a tab or that process, it kills firefox.exe ENTIRELY and DOES NOT bring up the crash reporter but does bring up the restore window upon relaunch of FireFox.

I will be downgrading to FireFox v3.6.3 after I have submitted this bug as its a "deal breaker" for me.



Still love firefox but latest update is a "showstopper".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Browser (FireFox)
2. Go to Zero-Punctuation
3. Click on the "Click to play" button in the flash video
4. Crash!

sorry, I should have been more specific, one thing I do to problem solve is disable ALL add-on's (flash/java/shockwave are exceptions), problem still occurred

I have just reinstalled FireFox v3.6.3 and all is well again! 

Its really a shame, its the first time I have EVER had to stick with an older version of FireFox :(

use the alternative way if the crash Reporter doesn't come up and you don't have recent crash IDs in about:crashes.

thanks for the mention, I will try it out tomorrow or sometime next week if i get free time

additionally I actually had to downgrade FireFox for one of my close friends (old client, I built his original PC and Servers), it wouldn't crash initially, but continually looped after he tried to start firefox after closing it (so it worked fine after PC restart, then after an hour of use he closed it, everything seemed ok, then we tried to reopen FireFox and it would crash/report/loop)

for his situation it DID bring up the crash reporter and I made sure to let it report all details about 15 times before I just reinstalled x.3, issue for him is gone now, hopefully the 15 identical (well besides the time in-between sending) crash reports will do some good!

i'm not able to reproduce on win7 firefox 3.6.3/3.6.6.  i could not find an archive 3.6.4 installer to see a crash but am wondering if your issue is related to:

Thanks for the notice, I dont think its Adobe Flash's fault unless FireFox changed something in relation to, because as you say it doesnt happen in FireFox v3.6.3 (and all prior!)

I have not restarted FireFox since I made this report but I did notice the update notification for FireFox v3.6.6, I will give it a go this evening to see if its resolved!

Oh, also, of note here since that article is in possible relation:

I knew of the feature coming, but Adobe Flash didnt flash, it wasnt within 10sec, it was INSTANT crash as soon as I activated a flash object (video or game, didnt matter) it totally crashed FireFox itself with NO error reporting capability (thats a pretty bad crash if you ask me!) 

But again, will test tonight and report back!

For me it does not crash. FF>3.6.3 just hangs. Process needed to be killed. this is on Windows XP SP3
Went back to 3.6.3 and all is fine.

I noticed this first with youtube.

Can you tell me how you downgraded to 3.6.3 from this new update of 3.6.4? Did you have to uninstall firefox and reinstall it? I have had nothing but problems since it updated for me on saturday to 3.6.4, and have even gone as far as updating on the crash site to 3.6.6 and I am still encountering the same problem. I cannot get anything to work in Firefox that requires Flash, but I am not getting any crash reports, just pages that tell me my adobe flash is out of date, even though I continue to "update it", I've uninstalled, reinstalled and I still have the same problem. It will not even hold the update and I cannot get apps to work. Java tells me it is up to date, but I am also having problems with that it seems, whereas I had no issues ever using firefox prior to this new update. Thank you.

I have a **** UL speed with my connection, but unless someone else links it, I will upload it to MediaFire (I keep it in my reinstall kit, glad i didnt update it)

FireFox v3.6.6 SEEMS to work better, but when I tried to open 2 pages with active flash objects or full screen flash objects and it crash's again (but works fine for a single instance in a single page).

Still, back to FF v3.6.3... oh Mozilla/FireFox why have you forsaken us!!! (still not crash reporter on restart, at least restore session is there...) Also glad to hear its not just me with this issue!

Finally I seem to have my flash issue resolved. I went so far as installing Google Chrome just to accomplish this earlier. The Adobe pop up that kept insisting I update the newest version after updating my Firefox to 3.6.4 on saturday appears to be a very flawed version. No matter what I did I could not uninstall this bugger. I finally did some researching around and found a lot of people were having the same problems, and looked at the best options on what to do. One of them was to try Chrome, and upload the Adobe Flash player patch that was released today that is on the CNet site. That worked! I can now see my apps again, and my pics are no longer fuzzy- So far so good, and I've just opened the Firefox 3.6.6 and it seems to be working in FF as well. I'll keep that filehippo site handy just in case I encounter any more problems. Thanks!

No problem, but I wouldnt blame Adobe Flash for this, why would the SAME version (I had the latest at the time) of Adobe Flash cause 3.6.4 and then 3.6.6 to completely crash but not 3.6.3, something changed in FF's handeling of Adobe Flash to cause this to occur.

Glad to hear that the latest update to Adobe Flash fixed the issue, I really have to look into the change log to see what up (and test it for myself)

Nope, its definitely an issue with this latest FF update, that was where the adobe problem came from for me in the first place, not the actual adobe site. it just came up automatically saying I needed to update adobe in Firefox, java did the same thing. I never wanted to upgrade anything *because if its not broke, don't try creating more problems* but when FF updated it automatically messed up the flash player and java, and my NoScript add on went sailing into cyberspace and I still haven't been able to figure out why that deleted itself. In order to install the 3.6.3 version of FF, we uninstall the current version and then reinstall? I can't say that this adobe patch is working any better on FF, I can only seem to get it to "read" on FF, it looks like its going to load, and then gets to the end and just stops. Figures. It was working fine on that chrome installation I added earlier.

lol! misunderstood i see :D

you DO NOT have to uninstall then install, just reinstall it right over the latest version using the EXE for FF v3.6.3, yeah I checked FF v3.6.6 and the latest Adobe Flash and while the problem isnt as bad as FF v3.6.4 (as in hard crash as soon as ANY flash object was activated), its still bad (crashing if I try to use more then one flash object, on the same page or spread out, poof HARD CRASH)...

but yeah... not cool...

I have tried everything I can think of... I have submitted bug reports (auto reporter) for both 3.6.4 and 3.6.6 and I still get nothing, and havent seen any "confirmed" status on bugs that resemble this same one I reported

I have tried to use 3.6.6 for a full day, and also made my friends and client/friend submit the crash reports as well, im done fighting with it, I have disabled auto-update (it really wasnt a problem since I never really closed FF) and deleted 3.6.6 completely off my system

if anyone finds a solution or the next update fix's this problem then ill be happy to try if someone else can confirm its fixed



I did this test on all the systems I could get access to, some crashed with only one flash object and some required 2 or 3 to crash, but it still crashed hard and I had to manually do the reports (as in the crash reporter would not show itself when it crashed, I had to force it), the systems vary from a single core up to a quad core (intel/AMD mixed), 2GB to 8GB, ATI x600 to nVidia 280, all with the latest firefox and java/adobe flash

Mozilla Crash Reporter: DOES NOT COME UP
WinDbg: Doesnt seem to report anything when FireFox crash's, unless im doing it wrong (which is possible), but im following the instructions linked on the page you linked (which again, if you read, was already linked before) for how to use WinDbg and am getting replys I should expect up until starting FireFox.
