were you receiving crashes in Firefox 3.6.3 or only after upgrading to 3.6.4? have you tried 3.6.6 and are you experiencing the same issue?
Previous versions installed (Firefox 3.5.6 and SeaMonkey 2.0.4) did not crash. Firefox 3.6.6 has not yet been installed.
would you mind to try FF3.6.6. i'm wondering if your issue is related to: https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/The+Adobe+Flash+plugin+has+crashed

edwardp_ thanks for confirming the crash on 3.6.6. i have logged an internal adobe bug to track the issue.

LastFm.com uses flash. Once a specific artist radio has been selected one is supposed to see images of the singer. Instead, in Minefield, one sees just the LastFm logo. After a while, say five minutes and three or four artists on, Minefield crashes. This has been the case for about three weeks now. But then LastFm hasn't been too steady since OOP came on the scene. LastFm is fine in IE.
Sorry - last.fm.com Missed a stop.
Received an update to Adobe Flash today. If it is version 10.1 r53 (per about:plugins in SeaMonkey/Firefox: File name: NPSWF32.dll Shockwave Flash 10.1 r53 it is still causing the browsers to crash. Is this being reported on any systems other than WinXP?
Comment 13 - 32-bit Linux.
Ah yes, thanks. I'm investigating this from the Flash side (for Adobe) but so far haven't been able to reproduce the crash in captivity; the crash dumps haven't yet produced any leads that are useful enough to experiment with. So any tips on sites / setups / etc that may crash more readily would be greatly appreciated...
The crashes will occur on almost any site that uses Flash, whether it is as something simple as a small advertisement, or something larger such as one crash that occurred on Adobe's own home page. If this will help: The CPU is an AMD K6-2 (with 3D Now) 500 MHz and the system has 512 Mb memory. Not a large or fast system, but it works good as a basic system. On the Linux side of it, Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is installed, running their "generic" kernel.
CPU Info AuthenticAMD family 1 model 8 stepping 12 Crash Reason SIGILL edwardp: thanks, that's the right hint. steven: the problem is almost certainly that your JIT/vm is generating code which isn't legal on that processor. For testing, you're going to need to get some older CPUs :)

yeah, that's what occurred to me as soon as I read that: that's a pre-SSE2 system, perhaps we're inadvertently slipping some of that in. I'll investigate on that front.
As a side note, Flash 10.1 ActiveX for Internet Explorer, also crashes IE 7 on the same system.
edward: yeah, that's expected. at this point you just need to wait. but we've identified the problem, which is often the hard part.
At least with Firefox and SeaMonkey, I can still use the last plugin in the 10.0 series without crashing. 10.0's ActiveX will not even install, due to the 10.1 release.

Investigating the non-SSE2-machine angle: No repro on a Win XP AMD Athlon(tm) Processor, MMX, 3DNow, ~1.0GHz. I'm going to try on other non-SSE2 machines, but when you say "will occur on almost any site that uses Flash", can you point to a *specific* site -- better yet, a specific SWF file -- that *reliably* crashes for you? (This would help us track down the conditions.)
Hmm, I wonder if the problem here isn't SSE2, but rather the CMOV instruction... it came into being for the Pentium II (which I'm testing on with no crashes yet) but some later non-Intel chips (including the K6 and K6-2) didn't implement it.
This is definitely an issue with CPUs that don't support the CMOV instruction. A fix will be in place for the next dot-release of Flash Player. See Bug 591054.
