I obtain crashes regularly while downloading POP3 mail (others not tested) in
the Netscape PR2 and PR3 releases. A workaround is to remove all of the msf
index files and start netscape again. Subsequent downloads will work a few times
untill the next crash.
I have several Mail accounts (me@work, me@home, mw@play), but only a single pop
server (me@work). I have created filters which direct mail addressed to me@home
and me@play to the inboxes of the respective mail accounts. Other filters filter
on the basis of Subject, CC, To, From and so on.
Crashes have occured even when mail is filtered to folders within me@work.
In general several messages are downloaded correctly before the crash.
Subsequent downloads crash always at the same message.
The messages which are downloaded before a crash are often to be found in the
wrong folders, and curiously often in the same folder. Once the msf files are
deleted the messages are usually filtered to the correct folders (though not
always).
Crashes happen equally on the Netscape PR2 and PR3

do you know what filter actually causes the crash?
can you post the contents of that filter (from your rules.dat file, in the
server subdirectory)

I have not been able to reproduce the crash in the last two days, but all mail
is currently being delivered to the OpenLDAP Folder (see rules.dat attachement)
ignoring all other filters. Only when I turn this filter off are the other mails
filtered correctly. In addition all mail subjects are prefixed with "Re:" in the
list view (does not happen when the filter is deactivated). The message view
displays the message subject correctly.
Sorry - it is not much to go on for the moment.
I am confirming the bug that Simon has reported.
Mozilla M18 ID: 2000091312
His discription is exactly the same that I am seeing.
My work around is also to delete the *.msf files, only
difference is that only the files with the same name as
the sub folders to where the mail is being directed are
being deleted. This usually holds for a couple of days, only.

I have managed to narrow down the problem slightly:
For some reason one of the mail messages being downloaded is incorrectly
filtered (for whatever reason) and lands in the wrong folder. An attempt is
however made to update the index file of the correct folder. Either the index is
already corrupt (resulting in the filter working incorrectly) or an incorrect
filter corrupts the index ....
Effectively once Netscape/Mozilla crashes it is only necessary to check which
mail message was incorrectly filtered and then to delete the index file of the
folder to which the mail should have been filtered. Now the mail message is
filtered correctly and all of the messages are downloaded.

I fixed a bug two or three days ago which would cause pop messages to get
mis-filtered. I never saw it corrupt msf files, but perhaps it was related. I
also fixed a bug a couple weeks ago that would cause problems if you attempted
to filter messages to your inbox (in order to stop filter execution). Can either
of you (Steve and Simon) reproduce this bug with a build from 10/25 or later?

Hi
Since hand deleting the *.msf files with the same name as
as the subfolders that were created six days ago, haven't had
any crashes relating to MSGDB.DLL.
I have also added two more folders and filters.
The only thing that comes to mind is that I've been very
careful to use very simple filters i.e. one statement type filters.
If sender contains foo move to foo2
As stated before, using Build ID: 2000091313. It is MathML-SVG-XSLT
which means I'm not testing nightlies at the moment, but working
on SVG inline images for Mozilla see http://www.skeeter-s.com
Sorry, but won't be installing a nightly for awhile.

Is anyone still seeing this? I can't reproduce it here.

Hi
Since my last entry, I haven't had this problem anymore.
The deleting of the *.msf files and using simple filters
seems to have solved the problem for me.

I also have had no subsequent problems in the last few weeks after having
installed the latest Mozilla version. I am using the same filters as before.
