According to Sketch:
https://wiki.mozilla.org/File:Fx-Next-Direction-AppMenu-Sketch.jpg

There is functionality to do About: Updates

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
No functionality present under new app menu button.

Users must use customize -> Menu bar to find this again.

Is this needed for Beta1+?
I was trying to find the clean mockup that Dao used for this but couldn't.
Component: General → Menus
Version: unspecified → Trunk
No need to use 'customize -> Menu bar' , press Alt+H then Alt+C or arrow down to 'check for updates'.. Menu will close after you press enter or click.
No longer blocks: FirefoxButton
My concern here is people will cry fool wolf that they cannot find the functionality using those listed already, not that there is a work around.

The new UI doesn't have this on there, unless it will end up in the About Dialog.
QA Contact: general → menus
There has been some discussion of adding the check for updates button to the about window for the final product (combining the actions of knowing what version you have and finding out if there is a new one). We could add check for updates to the Firefox button for nightly builds, since this is such a commonly used feature for nightly testers.
Why add another action? Can't the About Dialog simply and clearly state "Update Available" or "No update available"?
that would be a better UI. It also has some minor privacy implications of sending off the ping right then that we would need to consider.

Not really - we send the ping every 24 hours, and could just resend it when the window opens to be absolutely sure.

Unless, of course, automatic checking for updates was off. At which point we'd need some sort of "Check for Update" button or "Automatic updates disabled" text.
