It would be extremely helpful to have the Mac dmg tell us how many people are installing over a newer version (downgrading). We could correlate this data with releases, etc to see just how many people we are "losing" if we mess up a release, etc. If there is concern about the tracking aspect of it, perhaps we could have a checkbox in the dmg installer page that is checked by default. We could also use the metrics to get a ballpark conversion rate from installs -> ADUs.
Summary: [Mac] Get uninstall/downgrade metrics by having the installer ping mozilla → [Mac] Get install/downgrade metrics by having the installer ping mozilla
Probably not worth introducing an installer package just for this, though the idea can be revived if we start needing one for other reasons.
