Inspector highlighter panel not displaying correctly on linux
The highlighter panel doesn't display correctly on linux. It is intended to be a semi-transparent panel, but it is drawing opaque, obscuring the content underneath it. This looks like it will depend on bug 551111 and bug 408284 to make it work. Alternatively, we'll need a separate implementation for linux.
see: http://img.i7m.de/show/kwdek-kfgw4-1kzfv-s0tqx.png for an example.
Once we have bug 130078, will there be any need for the highlighter to be a separate window (i.e a panel)? A fix for bug 551111 is likely to only work with some window managers. The best we can do for other window managers is a 0/1 alpha, opaque or completely transparent pixels.
That is my concern, Karl. The fix for bug 130078 might provide an alternative way to create a highlighter panel, but it will be different from the other implementations. It looks like we might need to create a different mechanism for linux. The goal for the Inspector is to have a rich highlighter that displays additional layout information and guides over content. That could be difficult to implement in an iframe without touching content. Alternatively, we could fall back to the inIFlasher for linux, but that's less than ideal.

Just pointing out for the sake of clarity that I'd imagined a chrome element over the top of the iframe (not in the iframe), though I don't really know what difficulties lie there.
