Pointer files containing an invalid path throw an error during startup
My existing FF 3.6 profile will not work in FF 4.0b1. A new profile works. I believe the problem is related to this message. Because this message has too little information and no file/line info, I cannot figure out the problem in my profile.
I don't think this is buildconfig - switching to Addons Manager.
Component: Build Config → Add-ons Manager
Product: Core → Toolkit
QA Contact: build-config → add-ons.manager
Target Milestone: --- → mozilla2.0
We really need more information to be able to work on that problem. 1. Attach the extensions.* files to the bug 2. Please disable all of your extenstions in Firefox 3.6 and start 4.0b1 afterward 3. Try to find out which extension is causing the problem by sequentially enabling those again.
Henrik, this bug is about the error message. The message should tell *me* what extension is causing the problem, not the other way around.
Summary: Error: ERROR addons.xpi: TypeError: newEntry is null → Pointer files containing an invalid path throw an error during startup
Ironically the error is being thrown by us attempting to log a more informative error, should be an easy fix.
blocking2.0: --- → beta2+
Also, the string "addons.xpi" is misleading: http://mxr.mozilla.org/mozilla-central/source/toolkit/mozapps/extensions/XPIProvider.jsm#139 I guess it should be "XPIProvider.jsm"
The error message thrown was: Error: ERROR addons.xpi: TypeError: newEntry is null
Simple fix to include the logging in this error case.

Verified fixed with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:2.0b2pre) Gecko/20100704 Minefield/4.0b2pre Warning: WARN addons.xpi: File pointer /email@example.com points to /build/etensions/mozmill-crowd/extension which does not exist Dave, we should still change addons.xpi to XPIProvider.jsm, or?
