(Keywords: hang, Whiteboard: [distro?])
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100627 Firefox/3.6.6
Build Identifier: 3.1 Lanikai
I recently upgraded to this newer Thunderbird release, and noticed that the Unified folder view option was no longer default. I found the option in the View menu and changed it back, only to find clicking Inbox subsequently causes CPU usage for Thunderbird to spike to 100%, and a complete program lock-up. Switching to a different folder view prevents this from happening.
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set View > Folders > Unified
2. Click on the unified Inbox
Actual Results:
100% CPU usage + freeze
Expected Results:
Displayed by unified account Inboxes

Anything in Tools -> Error console when this happens ? (or for that manner on the linux command line if you launch Thunderbird from the command line).
3.1 shouldn't be advertizing itself as Lanikai, where did you get the binary from ?

The freeze is permanent hang?
If you click on all individual inboxes (not the top level inbox in the unified view) you don't see a problem?
You used smart folders in 3.0, and didn't see this problem?
Ludovic, I have no output in the Error Console, nor when run from the terminal. I obtained the binary from an Arch Linux repository:
http://www.archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/thunderbird/
Wayne, indeed the freeze is permanent. I have clicked on all possible folders in every view - only the Unified Inbox will cause the hang. I did use smart folders (= Unified folders?) in 3.0, and didn't have this problem.

Even on PPA ?
Then it's called smart folders.

We have thunderbird-3.1 in the daily PPA at the moment, we're a little behind in getting it to the thunderbird-stable PPA. We'll be transitioning thunderbird in the dailies to 3.1 very soon.
This bug disappeared when I deleted and re-added my accounts.
