This problem persists in v3.1.5 downloaded and installed today. It is easily reproduced by writing a new email, attaching the pdf then opening it locally to see the problem -- only contains 0x0d0a (two bytes comprising \r\n). I can send whomever is willing to debug this a copy of the pdf for testing (it is an appraisal of our home so I didn't want to post it blindly). Contact me at nat@classobjects.com
Same problem for me, but not always reproducible... some pdfs go well, others are corrupted and neither to recipients nor in my bcc self copy result readable.
thunderbird version 3.1.6 installed on OS X 10.6.5

There is a problem with TB and Avast! antivirus:
- So Avast! corrupts attached files when analysing attached files with TB.
2 solutions:
- Tell Avast! don't look at attached files
- Use SSL/TLS connexion with IMAP server, so Avast can't look at attached files.
