User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.6) Gecko/20100625 Firefox/3.6.6 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) After viewing a few youtube videos and other flash sites like hulu.com, firefox.exe becomes very unresponsive and i noticed it uses more than 1GB of RAM. Not many tabs are open... and only 1 window is open. I have had as many as 60 tabs all together in several windows open at the same time before, and this never happened before. also, plugin-container.exe causes firefox to become unresponsive as well, as uses memory in excess of 60MB which I feel is too much. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. watch a few youtube vids 2. watch a few hulu vids 3. have a few tabs open (like around 5) 4. continue browsing normally.... it should lock up and freeze or be really slow Actual Results: firefox became slow and used more than 1GB of RAM, plugin-container.exe used more than 60MB of RAM Expected Results: firefox.exe should have used around 500MB of RAM like it usually does and still be very responsive and fast, etc. why did u start using "plugin-container.exe"?
>why did u start using "plugin-container.exe"? If a plugin like Flash crashes, it only takes down plugin-container.exe, not the entire browser. If the memory consumption inside plugin-container.exe is entirely caused by the plugin. Only a rather tiny wrapper is Mozilla code. I suggest you to check if you're running the latest version of all your plugins.
Note that the current browser (not plugin-container.exe) uses a bit too much memory if many images are shown on screen. Not a real leak (images are discarded when you go to another page or close the tab), but a future version might discard images a bit faster, and should thus use less memory about 20 seconds after you've loaded a page.
oh ok i see how it works. i should mention that right when i updated to version 3.6.6 i also updated to the latest flash
i don't see a useful bug here. If you have a specific complaint for the flash team, you can file one here (in the plugins product) or by visiting http://www.adobe.com and using their web site to find their tool. without a list of the pages you're visiting and an incredibly large amount of time, we can't really determine what is using memory, why, or whether the amount of memory it's using is excessive. If you'd like to get seriously involved w/ the project and investigate, please visit us on irc. You'll want to set up a build environment and then we could help you investigate.
