On a bug, I can use :bhearsum in assignee, username, etc. to reference myself. On query.cgi I can't. This is especially annoying when trying to search for other people in bugs, people who I only know by their alias.

IMHO this is a pretty serious flaw.
Which fields in query.cgi are you talking about?
Severity: major → enhancement
OS: Mac OS X → All
Hardware: x86 → All
Version: unspecified → 3.6.1
The text inputs "email1" and "email2"
I think that this will be handled by:

  1) Adding autocomplete to those fields.
  2) If the type is "is", use usermatching.
  3) Also search the assignee realname.

The first will happen in 4.0 and probably obviate the primary need for this bug. The second and third are unlikely to happen before 4.2, after the search refactoring, though.

We are going to branch for Bugzilla 4.4 next week and this bug is either too invasive to be accepted for 4.4 at this point or shows no recent activity. The target milestone is reset and will be set again *only* when a patch is attached and approved.

I ask the assignee to reassign the bug to the default assignee if you don't plan to work on this bug in the near future, to make it clearer which bugs should be fixed by someone else.

The email fields you mentioned now support user autocompletion, so this is no longer an issue.
