I've had countless friends, relatives, and clients show their confusion to me about what happens to files they download from the web. I always resolve this problem by configuring Firefox to always ask where files are to be saved. It would save efforts and prevent confusion if this was the default setting.

Reproducible: Always
Was wontfix'ed in bug 263703. Is this related to bug 574253 ?
No, it's not related the latter, but it is, apparently, the same as bug 263703. It was closed for version 1 of Firefox. Since then, I hope, more feedback has been provided.

Mike Connor, it appears, is a bad marketer, who doesn't understand what users need. Most people who can and will provide feedback are also capable of changing the poorly chosen default behavior of Firefox and will do that because it's simpler and faster than to file a bug report or to register and complain on some forum. Those who can't change the setting and simply remain confused (or switch to a different browser) aren't capable of providing any feedback in venues where Mike Connor will see it. This is my first time complaining it publicly. I've simply changed this setting for people I support throughout the years (!), and I am very capable of providing feedback. However, I've chosen to just change the damned setting. I've gotten too irritated by this, and that's why I've filed this report.

I believe that Mike Connor has skewed statistics and is simply ignorant of what is true.
