Due to a font rendering issue in Mac OS X (similar to bug 577703?), our Malayalam users on Mac see wrong UI translations. This is easily fixed by installing an updated font, RachanaMac.ttf, available here:

http://sites.google.com/site/macmalayalam/

The font has been released under GPL v.3.

To help our users discover this font, we'd like to link to its download page from Malayalam's First Run and What's New pages.

Ani, can you provide the text that we can use for the promo of the font? We will replace the bottom-right promo box on our pages (e.g. the Add-ons promo on http://ml.www.mozilla.com/ml/firefox/3.6.6/firstrun/). Ideally, we'd have 3 pieces of the promo text: the title, the body and the link description with a call to action.

Made it simpler to use short Malayalam translations and thus accommodate it within the given space. Feel free to make any changes if required.

Pascal, a slight change in the title section.

Instead of "RachanaMac font", changing it to "Rachana font for Mac".
ie,
title: Rachana font for Mac
translation in ml:മാകിനുള്ള രചനാ അക്ഷരസഞ്ചയം

Now the final text will be :

My observations noted below:
(i) 3.6.7 whatsnew for Windows/Linux :
    The below right promo does not look neat. I guess the translation needs to be shortened, also the font size need to be reduced. Please could you help me to get the English and Malayalam translated file for this, I am not able to find them.Screen shot named attached.

(ii) promo for mac font :
     I guess here also I shall try to shorten the translation a bit. Is it possible to reduce the font size here also?

I have updated the mac text and reduced font size on the page, for the out of process plugins strings, they are in your main.lang file, just shorten them there. Note that this is a separate visual issue, I'd rather keep this bug focused on the font one.

I understand Pascal, have updated and bug is filed for main.lang for the out of process plugins, and shall focus on mac font promo in this bug.

Have checked the updated mac font promo. The translation looks good. I guess we need to add bit more space between title & desc and desc & link. What say?

Hey Pascal, if we were to add the same link to the landing page, where do you think we could put it? Would you suggest replacing the 3rd promo box (currently: "other languages", pretty important in India) with the font promo (only for our Mac users of course), or maybe adding a horizontal promo similar to the Thunderbird one?

Good suggestion. We could amend the font promo to mention SUMO, too. For instance:
