User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.1.10) Gecko/20100623 Iceweasel/3.5.10 (like Firefox/3.5.10)
Build Identifier: 2.0.0.23

When composing an email, if the user highlights a line of text, moves the cursor outside of the Message Compose window and presses delete, the highlighted text is deleted, however when the cursor is moved back inside the Message Compose window, the "highlighting" continues, selecting other lines of text.

This does not occur if the mouse cursor is kept inside the Message Compose window during highlighting and manipulating text.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start composing a new mail (new, reply or forward)
2. Highlight some text
3. Move the cursor away from the Message Compose window, press Backspace to delete the highlighted text
4. Return the mouse cursor back to the Message Compose window, without clicking anywhere
Actual Results:
Highlighting continues

Expected Results:
After Backspace is pressed, the highlighted text should be deleted and highlighting discontinued
Have you tried safe mode? (see https://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode for more information)

can you reproduce this using a current version of thunderbird?

If you are able to reproduce, add new details, and a testcase if one does not already exist in the bug report.
