Further behavior, same bug? Keyboard can be used to move cursor and select text. But selected text in search field is not highlighted, though actually is selected. Repro: In Google search field, type a word. Cursor jumps to end, can't be repositioned with mouse. With keyboard arrows, move cursor to midpoint; cursor is positioned as expected. Shift + left arrow x2 to select block of text; cursor disappears and no text appears selected. Click Delete; selected two characters are deleted, cursor is positioned as expected.
