From Bugzilla Helper: User-Agent: Mozilla/4.7 [en] (WinNT; I) BuildID: 2000102404 I noticed when deleting the text and you get to the first char, the form fields on the line re-render, shifted up about 1 pixel. This appears to happen when a text field is the first thing in a table cell. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Load the indicated page. 2. Move the mouse insertion pointer to the end of the string "pqg" in the text field 3. delete the text, character by character. Actual Results: When you get to the first character, deleting it shifts the whole field up approx 1-2 pixels. Type 2 more characters back in and the field shifts down 1 pixel again. You can do this ad infinitum * note: the submit button in the same cell of this table shifts an equal amount in all cases. Expected Results: No content re-rendering I think I narrowed this down a bit. Here are the criteria: * context of fields must be in a table * seems to only happen if there is more than one field on a line and the one being altered by deletion is of type text, password, file and textarea (tried checkbox and button types and they didn't change things by themselves) * a form field must be the first thing in the cell (putting text before it solves the problem) * This only affects the form fields that are in the current cell where the text being altered resides I realize that the above criteria makes it rather a boundary condition, but given the huge percentage of authors that use tables for layout, and the fact that tables are frequently used as an align mechanism for multiple fields, this seems less a boundary case than one might otherwise think. Simple HTML code to repro: ----- <form method=get action="search"> <TABLE><TR><TD><input type="text" name="oeu" value="ee"> <input type="checkbox" name="foo" value="pqr"></TD></TR> </table> </form>
Marking NEW. Win build 2000102920. I think the <form> outside of the table containing the form controls is what is causing this rendering issue. In the testcase, you can see that by moving the <form> inside the table cell with the form controls fixes this rendering behavior. To me this hints at some sort of redraw issue so I think that this is may be a layout issue and not a html form control issue. Editing summary. Old Summary:Input text field first in table cell, text entry resizes the entry box

Ever confirmed: true
Summary: Input text field first in table cell, text entry resizes the entry box → form outside table causes a weird position redraw of input text
this may be a dup, I think I have seen this before - reassigning

I see this on windows 98 build 2001-08-27-03... first submit input is under the text input and the second submit input is to the right of the text input. On IE and Netscape 4.x both submits are to the right of text input...
