STR:
1. create a filter with match all messages that have subject ="ciao" and that move macthed message to trash (in my case the filter is applied an account that is stored on "Local Folders");
2, send yourself one message that satisfy filter condition: the new message is moved to trash: if trash was empty, now we can see trash bolded with 1;
3, empty trash via context menu: now the number disappear (because trash is empty) but bolded name is still here!

I'm unable to reproduce this.
Running TB trunk on Windows.

Did you get it to behave correctly with trunk or a nightly build on your system as well?

To make sure this wasn't a problem on a single PC here, I tested on TB 3.1.1 release, WinXP, on another system and reproduced it as described.
Trash remains bolded when emptied with either the context menu or File -> Empty Trash.

Tested now also on TB 3.2a1 20100803 and the issue is still here using STR in comment #0

it might depend on whether the trash folder is open/selected before you do an empty trash (though the empty trash context menu w/o the folder selected first worked for me on the trunk).

Now I returned to TB 3.1 (because of dataloss bug #582918).
My behavior is this:
select trash folder on my local folders (enable\disable message preview is the same) then execute STR in comment #0.
After step #3 if I select another folder the issue disappear.

I just tried it on 17.0.2 and Trash is still bold after File -> Empty Trash.
Compact Folders sometimes, but not always unbolds it. Opening the folder unbolds it immediately.
