Details

To compete with Outlook - MailNews needs more functionality.
One example I can think of is the need for javascripting macros to make mailing
list programs, etc.

If MailNews allows this scripting also in Newsgroups - it could take Outlook by
storm.

Other examples are to be more configurable
http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58380

And allow more filters (Look at Outlook)

Keep up the good work.

You can mark this as future or whatever.

Thanks.
Brian,

I suggest that you resummarize this bug to focus on one issue (eg, the scripting).

The current bug is essentially "Be more like Outlook", which is not a specific
request for enhancement...

If you want more filters, it may help to decribe the kinds of filters you want,
probably in a separate bug.

Unless this bug is narrowed down to something reasonably, I would suggest it be
marked invalid.

Also, you should read the bug reporting guidelines at
http://www.mozilla.org/quality/bug-writing-guidelines.html
Brian, please reopen this bug with a better summary and a clear description of
a specific bug or feature request. General 'make mozilla better' discussions
belong in the newsgroup or IRC, not in bug reports.

There needs to be Javascripting Macros in mailnews and more filters. I can't
list all the filters there should be - but some examples are based on strings,
based on sender, reciever, date, account, etc. Look at Outlook for a good idea.
There should be an ability to write javascript Macros that allow access to
emails.

Summary: Just a reminder - MailNews needs more functionality (ie scripting) → Javascripting Macros and filters
Brian,

I suggest you make this two separate bugs. Right now it looks at first glance
like you want to script your own javascript filters... the summary is especially
misleading on that count.

I suggest having one bug on filters, one bug on javascript access to email, and
if you think that they depend on each other, cross-referencing them in the
comments or in the dependencies lists.
