Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 If I highlight a bookmark in the Library window for more than a fraction of a second, Firefox completely downloads the bookmarked location to its cache, even if the bookmark happens to point to a 10MB or 100MB .ZIP file. So if I scroll down the bookmark list with the cursor keys, Firefox retrieves every location that was highlighted. I can confirm this from web server log files, modem activity indicators, and examination of the Firefox cache directory. It happens in every version from 3.0 to 4.0b2, it happens in Safe mode, it happens with default installation settings, and it happens regardless of the "network.prefetch-next" setting. The behavior is not caused by any of the reasons discussed in the "Firefox makes unrequested connections" knowledge base article, and I have "browser.chrome.favicons" and "browser.chrome.site_icons" set to false. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Select "Organize Bookmarks" from the Bookmarks menu 2. Highlight a bookmark Actual Results: Bookmarked location gets retrieved to a file in the Firefox Cache directory. Expected Results: Nothing

I can repro this using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b3pre) Gecko/20100803 Minefield/4.0b3pre ID:20100803055502. After the download finished, the Cache Entry gets deleted. If you delete the Bookmark during the Download, it stops. This is quite bad. Unsure if this is a Networking and/or Storage/Places Issue.

It seems to be a duplicate of Bug434712 if this problem does not occur when browser.microsummary.enabled = false.

Ah, thanks Alice! I totally forgot about that one. Gonna check if it's a Dupe ...
Confirmed that "browser.microsummary.enabled=false" resolves the problem. Thank you. The "Firefox makes unrequested connections" KB article does mention this under the category "Live Title updating," but it seems to apply only if I had chosen to make any of my bookmarks "Live Title", which is not the case. That seems to be written for Firefox 2.
