2000102920 trunk winnt4 I created a new profile named "test". When I looked at the directory containing the profiles, I saw that all the files were in "c:\winnt\profiles\gilles\application data\mozilla\users50\test\7lf1tz5e.slt\". Every time I create a new profile , a sub directory with a random name is created and all the files are in it.
reassigning to sspitzer. This is on purpose. See 56002.

Something's not right here. If I rename my Users50 directory and run Mozilla again, I get a new Users50 with my profile in Users50\...\<salt1>. That's ok. But when I rename my real Users50 directory back, Mozilla ignores my old profile and creates a new directory Users50\...\<salt1>\<salt2>. I have to delete C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Mozilla\mozregistry.dat to recover my old profile. This makes it very difficult to test bugs with a fresh profile.

this is by design. if you want the ability to move your Users50 directory to the side, you'll have to move the registry to the side, too.
