per bug 539813 comment 5, the library is from a product which reached end of life.
Judging from bug 539813's comments, the issue only affects a few users. The blocklist is for things that affect significant numbers of our users. Are there other reasons we should do this?
the affected machines are machines which are running windows terminal services. this means, that many users (in my case 50) on the same machine are affected, which will in 99% percent not report any bugs or participate on any bug-report-system like this, because they have an administrator like me, which is the only responsible place for them, to report bugs.

so, i think, it is not fair if you judge on base of the comments of bug 539813.

We have a number of customers working on WTS 2008 R2.
This bug appears there permanently many times a day.
These are systems for productive use, not at home.

Is there any workaround or bugfix we can apply?
Is it possible to update thumbcache.dll in any way? Or which version of thumbcache.dll can solve this problem?
Benjamin, is this something that we would want to block?
Does this DLL ever provide useful functionality? This *seems* safe to blacklist at first glance.
According to bug 539813, this was part of Office 2003, and it was discontinued long ago. I don't know what purpose it serves. Also in that bug, it looks like there are still some crashes occurring related to that dll, so I think we should move forward with the block.

i think we have the same problem in other application (proficash, german banking software) and if i think some time about that stuff, i think this thumbcache.dll is responsable for different crashes on ms office as well!

i have now removed rights for every users/groups from the system, so that thumbcache.dll cannot be loaded from the system anymore. on a short test there seems no problems in explorer. i dont know if the problem of profi cash and thunderbird is fixed but i think the chance is good, so this maybe could be a solution (or just rename/move/delte this file..) for the complete system/problem, not only for thunderbird.
