scc, you have a Mac-only string test harness that tests most of the features of the new string APIs (nsAReadableString and friends). We should make it a priority to get your harness compiling cross-platform. As it stands, people end up stumbling into build bustage that "one string feature at a time". Getting the harness running should flush out *all* these issues in one fell swoop. People should not be afraid to use the new APIs for fear of introducing build bustage! :-)

close to finishing it on Linux. I'll post the final diff to this bug.

milestone -> future, but it should land if its ready... if someone can tell me that the string code breaks often then we would move the milestone up.
