Clicking on the '+'-icon of a tab group opens a new tab and immediately switches to it. I would expect it to only open a new tab. And this actually doesn't happen when there are no tabs anywhere and you're creating the first tab in the tab group.

I believe this is intended behavior. You're opening a new tab to go somewhere.

Fwiw, it's not something I would expect. But like I said, then it should also be happening for the first tab created in the first tab group.

While this is intended behavior, part of the problem is that the z-index for the new tab is incorrect so you cannot see the animation. That said, we are moving to the design spec here, which should also solve the problem: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=575851
