Details
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8
Build Identifier:
The website's URL for downloading Thunderbird displays a file size for the current version [3.1.2] as 6.4 Mbyte.
The page on which the TBird installer is found is:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/thunderbird/
The URL on for downloading the installer is:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/thunderbird/download/?product=thunderbird-3.1.2&os=win&lang=en-US
The actual file size downloaded from this URL is 9Mbyte.
As there is an implication/inference available that the file is not the correct one, has been compromised, etc., this should be corrected.
And, given that the file size is incorrect, I should ask: Is the file located at this URL on the above described page the correct file, without virus or other compromises?
Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
Go to the page for downloads.
Expected Results:
Actual file size should be displayed on any page where there is a link to download thunderbird.
Should be correct, really, on -any- mozilla product page !!!

John: If you want to confirm the integrity of the file, then we publish checksums for each release, e.g. see the MD5SUMS and SHA1SUMS files here: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/3.1.2/
As to the problem: I can confirm this, it is something on the website side, though I'm not quite sure what yet.
It looks like the Windows file sizes are picking up the old 2.x file sizes. However, on OS X, I'm seeing 18.7MB for British, and that isn't near any of those sizes.
What I've also just noticed (I have an en-GB firefox). If I compare these two pages:
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/
http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-GB/
en-US is wrong, but en-GB is right.
I'll take a look through the files tomorrow.

Andrei, could you take a look at this please?
I think I might not have time in the next day or so, and I think your set-up is probably better for debugging on. Ping me on irc if you need some background/pointers.

Sorry, forgot to update this. This is fixed for now -- the underlying cause is the fact that the en-US pages uses an old JS script that doesn't pull the download size from product details at all. The data is just embedded in trunk/js/old/download.js
I need to move this page over to using the new download script, which will occur in bug 590408.

I'm smiling....that nirvana of bug reporting -- to make a report that actually shows up as a fix listed on the next releases release notes. A blip of fame....
As always -- thanks to all who contribute their efforts to sustain the mozilla product line . . .
