User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b4) Gecko/20100817 Firefox/4.0b4 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b4) Gecko/20100817 Firefox/4.0b4 If Firefox is restarted, the title bar only shows "Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 4", without the page title. The text in the title bar doesn't change when you navigate to pages with different titles. Occasionally it updates to include a page's title, but I haven't been able to identify what causes the title bar to update like this. When this happens the title still doesn't update properly and stays the same navigating to different web pages. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Click on a link or type in a URL 2. Look at the title bar Actual Results: The text in the title bar didn't change. Expected Results: When going to different web pages the title bar should update to show the page's title followed by "Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 4".
The title bar also doesn't update when opening new tabs.
Likewise when changing a tab, the title bar doesn't update though the title on a task bar does update. The title bar updates after minimizing/maximizing a window.
The title bar also updates if you switch to another window.
Confirming same here. The title bar text only updates if you restore/maximize window. Switching tabs does not update text. Windows XP X64. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.2; WOW64; rv:2.0b5pre) Gecko/20100818 Minefield/4.0b5pre
Also confirmig here. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b5pre) Gecko/20100820 Minefield/4.0b5pre

As said in Bug 590854, the title bar does update if the menu bar is enabled.
Same problem here. I also cannot identify exactly what causes an update. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b4) Gecko/20100818 Firefox/4.0b4
Same here
Confirmed here as well. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:2.0b4) Gecko/20100818 Firefox/4.0b4 As noted, this only seems to be an issue when the menu bar is hidden.
yes I also noticed the same and searched for this and found the exact problem that you all are having. How firefox is implementing new changes.
Confirming on Windows XP Professional SP3
This bug is 'fixed' as of 4.0b5 build 1 - the title bar no longer shows any text when the menu bar is disabled.
That's same in 4.0b6 as well. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b6pre) Gecko/20100902 Firefox/4.0b6pre

Has it been confirmed that the behavior in 4.0b5 (no text at all in the title bar) is a *feature*? Should this really be marked as resolved?
If that is a feature, then it is a misfeature. I'd rather have it the old way.
not only 4.0b5, the newest trunk build is still same. Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:2.0b6pre) Gecko/20100907 Firefox/4.0b6pre
Still an issue in 4.0b6. If this is truly expected behavior, can somebody point to the documentation that indicates this?
Why was this marked FIXED?
Agreed. Per above, if this is expected behavior, where is it documented?
Going to close as WFM, assuming reporter updated to a new version and the issue disappeared. Can't find any evidence a patch was checked in.
Resolution: FIXED → WORKSFORME
The reason is the issue disappeared is because the title bar text disappeared altogether. I.e., in the early 4.0 betas, the title bar text always displayed, but starting with beta 4, it didn't update correctly. In beta 5, the title bar text was removed completely unless the menu bar is displayed. While the problem is "fixed" in the sense that the text doesn't update incorrectly, from a usability standpoint it's just as bad, as now there's no text at all.
I do not understand this either. Why this feature was pulled? Is this pulled deliberately?
