Hey Sean. As discussed over the phone, PR would like to spruce up Brendan's WordPress blog so it can be used as a better vehicle for discussing our technology plans. With that in mind, please explore new WP theme directions like we discussed over the phone: 1. high tech 2. inventor Erica and I will brainstorm potential names for the blog that you can work with. Thanks!
Hey guys. We want to revive this bug and get this going. No major pressures of time/deadlines here... but definitely want to get this done for Brendan as soon as possible. John, do we know if this is a simple re-skinning, or an entire blog template re-design? Sean, any thoughts around this and timing/availability? Depending on what we choose to do, you can take this on... or guide Ty in doing it since he's done a number of blog templates for us lately.
With regard to re-skinning or full template, I suppose either could work. We should talk to Brendan to see how his blog is currently set up and what would be the most efficient ways of implementing whatever we do. EJ, what's your take on this? Is this something you still want/need from a PR perspective? Re: resourcing, seems like this might be a good one for Ty or Lee. I'm sure either would do great, esp if Sean shares some of his initial ideas.
That sounds good to me. Ty is getting pretty swamped, so perhaps Lee (or Monique, if needed). Erica, let us know what you think.
i love that you are revisiting this! i think we should just talk to brendan quickly to make sure he still plans to blog regularly etc. when we did this initially, brendan seemed to like the blog, but we really wanted to at least make it look more serious by removing foxkeh, maybe giving him an actual name for the blog, maybe more mozilla branding than ff? i can dig up the notes from last year when i first sat down w/brendan but might be worth just starting over. also want to flag that chris initially brought this up so we might want to loop him into this project.
Sounds good. Erica, would you mind taking lead on gathering up the key folks and setting up a quick meeting for us to discuss ? but first, seeing those notes would be great.
just forwarded you and slater the notes from my initial meeting w/brendan in june 2010. he hasn't blogged since may so i really think we should ask him if he still plans to blog more regularly before even scheduling a meeting. i also forwarded the last chain i had where we asked tiffney to at least remove the foxkeh, etc because that sounds like a quick fix we can do. if he is going to blog regularly, pr can work w/him on topics, an ed cal, etc but don't think pr needs to be involved in discussions around his blog's design.
Ok. Thanks Erica. So, we'll wait for you on letting us know more about his intended blog frequency and so forth. Sound good? Then we can figure out next steps on design.
i'll set up a meeting to talk next steps w/brendan. to be clear i don't need to be involved in the design process but can help whim w/content.
Yep, we can manage design but do need your help on prioritization, timing and content.
chris asked me about this today. pr team can work with brendan on content but i think the more emergent need is around refreshing the template so it looks more modern. possible to decouple these things so that work can start on the design front without holding for pr? sense from today's discussion with chris was that it was ideally sooner rather than later.
I'll take care of it. Thanks.
Re: comment #10, that's definitely the plan. To add a little more clarity to what I said earlier, the main dependency with Brendan has never been getting his input on the actual content of the blog (as in the type of posts he'll write), it's been around confirming that he plans on continuing to actively post there and that PR sees it as an important channel that's worth promoting. Knowing that, we have a designer in mind and can kick things off fairly soon (depending on her availability)...Tara is on that part already.

My bad here. I'll try to track down Brendan and talk to him soon. Looks like this is something that can follow in the steps of the template we've established for Gary's blog, and so forth. Unless it requires a lot of additional bells and whistles, I think we can knock it out relatively quickly.
Hey guys, catching up on old bugs.... do we still want to do a custom blog for Brendan? I honestly didn't get a chance to catch up with him in person yet (sorry) but I know we're taking a new approach to blogs and wasn't sure if this rolled into that or not. cc-ing Chrissie for input as well.
could we at a minimum get him on the main template?
That'd be great. Chrissie ?
ping, Chrissie.. any thoughts here? would appreciate your input/help. Thanks
Tara, can you use the template for Gary's blog and assign the creative team resources to update it with: *Brendan's photo from http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/press/bios/#bio-eich *A short snippet of copy from Brendan's bio (same page as above) in the A little bit about Brendan *A tagline similar to Gary's I'll open an implementation bug to have the blog set up once the theme's assets are added here.
Hey Chrissie I don't think we'll need to do any graphic design here. The blog I see for Gary that is live looks pretty different than what Ty had designed: * http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/author/gkovacsmozilla-com/ * https://bug679171.bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=555910 Unless I've missed something and there are plans to update the blog skin to what Ty had done..? Either way, seems like it would simply be updating the existing templates (either the live one or what Ty had done) with his photo (which can be done in implementation) and the copy (which I'll ask Matej to craft). Gary's live blog doesn't have a tagline though, or a bio. Am I missing something? Please help clarify. Thanks.
Thanks Tara, closing as worksforme, have opened bug 717846 for Matej.
