Bug 588508 aims to improve the tools provided in Firefox for sharing information using social networking and other tools.

Ragavan pointed out in bug 588508 comment 11 that it would be useful to be able to get at the list of things that were shared via some API, and to do that we'll need to store the information and either create that API or just rely on people doing Places queries.

I suspect the information we'd want to store is:

 - date
 - shared URI
 - service used

As we extend the sharing feature, we may wish to extend this metadata.

Also, consider Recipient[s] (especially for directed sharing)

Definitely, if we extend the sharing function to allow for that. The one in bug 588508 currently doesn't, leaving addressing up to the client service; we won't be able to get that data out again.

I don't see why -- millions of people are already sharing links through various social sites, and there's zero expectation of having a local "shared items". I'm also curious what the use case would be for that, I can recall ever having wanted to see a list of URLs I've previously posted to, say, Twitter. Feels like ephemeral data that doesn't need to be tracked.

Perhaps you have a significantly different expectation of what this feature will be encompass? Would be good to understand the differences!

Bug 588508 is wontfix, so I think this is wontfix as well.
