User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100802 Thunderbird/3.1.2 Yesterday when using Thunderbird I was informed that an automatic update was ready to be installed when restarting. The update ran this morning but it lost one complete POP account and failed to import some other folder contents. The upgrade history shows the previous version as 2.0.0.24 (2010022820). Reproducible: Didn't try Is the previous content lost forever? Luckily this is not important as it's my work-away-from-home but I'm afraid of losing stuff off my work PC when I return home if Thunderbird is set for Automatic Update.
I've noticed this is similar to a problem I had when transferring Thunderbird from my old laptop in June. I used MozBackup 1.4.10 but the restore on my new laptop failed to replicate the same account, left some folders empty and restored my main Inbox only before a certain date. On this upgrade to 3.1.2 my Inbox is restored only to 10 December 2008, which may be the same cutoff date I experienced in June. The last two Inbox messages for 10 December 2008 are probably spam. I still have some of the MozBackup files I took in June.
this is not actually a migration component issue. is the folder pane in unified Folders? can you explain what you see in the folder pane? is the account shown in Tools|Accounts?
Component: Migration → Folder and Message Lists
QA Contact: migration → folders-message-lists
Version: unspecified → 3.1
You can use this info to see what data is in your profile: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Thunderbird If you want, you could send me the prefs.js file from your user profile dir, and tell me some info about the account that's missing (host name, account name, etc) and I could see what's going on in your prefs. You can use this address - bienvenu@mozillamessaging.com
(In reply to comment #0) > [...] it lost one complete POP account [...] Is Mail for that account delivered to "Global Inbox" ? I note that in 3.1.2, the entire account disappears from the "All Folders" view when you change the "Server Settings", "Advanced..." to deliver to "Global Inbox" (which doesn't seem quite right).

The missing account would have had a separate entry in Unified Folders. It disappeared from the folder pane and from Tool|Accounts. The mail for that account is delivered to its own Inbox.
ccrompton, have you seen this issue on any release subsequent to 3.1?
