Details
The tab close image in Fennec, a round red (x), looks like error imagery used in OS error dialog boxes. It can cause people to think an error has occurred in the tab.
The close image is also easy to tap by accident, causing the tab to close. CTRL+SHIFT+T does undo a tab close, but no other UI is available - bad for phones without a keyboard.
Can we tweak the imagery and the behavior to make the close image safer and easy to use?
We could hide the (x) and use a long-tap to make them visible.
We could make the thumbnail bigger and position the (x) differently, making it harder to mis-tap.

we could also only have the x on the active tab, since there's really no reason for the user to be tapping that anyway. Also, this is consistent with desktop firefox's behavior

There's two bugs here:
- change the image used to represent "close tab"
- change the defaults for where close tab buttons are presented in Fennec
I filed bug 590501 on the second issue
On changing the image, I agree that we should go with something that's platform native. mart3ll, can you help there?
Summary: Tab close (x) is slightly confusing in appearance and dangerous in behavior → Tab close (x) is confusing in appearance
