We should pay some more attention to optimizing the weight and complexity of site templates and pages to improve page download and display times. As we've seen with testing on other community sites, long page load times can turn a lot of people away from visiting and using a site.

I tried running a couple of pages through a web page analyzer and got back a report that raised concerns about the number of objects (images, scripts, CSS files, etc) and the size of those objects. I imagine different tools will give different responses, but the one I used was:

There are probably all sorts of separate things to do to optimize the pages, so we can spin off bugs for specifics issues and use this bug to track things overall.
Another tool to try:

http://code.google.com/speed/page-speed/
I ran the new home page through Page Speed and got the following report. The short version is we scored 80/100, had 27 resources requested and total transfer size was 315k. Seems like there's some room for improvement here.

Closing old Mozilla.org website bugs due to them not being relevant to the new Python-based Bedrock system. Re-open if this is a critical bug and should be resolved on the new system too.

This should probably be a meta bug, but there's no reason it's not still valid, especially to the pages which use the old template.

This will be an action item for the new Website UX person that starts on Monday, July 16th. This is something we should always be striving to improve and not just a one-time thing.
