As part of the update to the About window, the Support team suggested that we add "Firefox Help" to the window, since it's now moving towards being a useful starting point for troubleshooting — with the inclusion of Check for Updates in addition to the version number.

My initial inclination would be to de-emphasize the "Credits" button (turn it into a link in the body text after the version number or similar), and put the troubleshooting stuff as the main actions.

(I also heard it mentioned that they may want to add a link to the privacy policy in this window, so accommodating that in the glorous ASCII mock-up below)

Something like this: [this is a link] (this is a button)

__________________________________________

                Logo
               Firefox
__________________________________________
             version 4.0
              [Credits]

[Licensing information] — [Privacy Policy]

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac…
__________________________________________
(Check for updates) (Help)
It was pointed out that there is an "OK" button in this window on Windows — since it's not a dialog, I think we should just remove this button, and let people close the window as the obvious way to get rid of it.
And this might be a better layout, now that I look at it — moving the Check Update button near the version number, and put Privacy/license at the bottom part of body, and Credits/Help in the footer:

__________________________________________

                Logo
               Firefox
__________________________________________
             version 4.0

Is the "Troubleshooting Information" Entry from the old Menu, every Supporter and Help seeking User got used to, being dropped without replacement?

http://people.mozilla.com/~faaborg/files/20100718-firefoxButtonDetails/firefoxButton-i4.png mentions "inside of the About window".
FWIW, I think the user agent string (Mozilla/5.0....) could be removed (in favor of about:support), or at least minimized down to the Gecko/xxyyzz identifier (for nightlies).

Agreed.
Hey everyone; this bug is to track adding a link to Firefox Help to the box, the final design will be done elsewhere, likely in the meta bug.

After reflection, and per latest design thoughts in bug 579547, this has become WONTFIX. Essentially, the About Window is already in the Help menu on all OSes except OSX. Feels redundant.
