Please help us with edits for the first Mainstream User Newsletter, to the staged version that is up already. Due to the Responsys implementation timeline, we'll be sending this out in September, rather than August. Please create a Version A and a Version B. We're deciding which one to go with. Version A is what you have staged up already. Edits to Version A: 1. Header OLD COPY August 2010 NEW COPY September 2010 2. Summer Fun with Firefox (welcome note) - Change "Summer Fun with Firefox" header to "Stay Connected with Firefox" - Replace paragraph with this: Welcome to our first newsletter! It’s great to “meet” you, and we’re looking forward to sharing lots of ideas in the coming issues. For starters, we’ve got some tips on how to stay connected during the busy back-to-school season: Firefox Sync and Firefox Home. Hope you enjoy! 3. Next Story "Bring Firefox to the Beach" Change headline to say "Take Firefox with You" 4. Right sidebar menu "In this Issue": Change first item from "Bring Firefox to the Beach" to "Take Firefox with You" 5. In the FIrefox Health Check area: - Firefox download will be Firefox 3.6.9 (instead of 3.6.8) 6. At the top just above the border, where it offers the twitter, facebook and envelope symbols, please add "Follow us" just before those symbols thank you, Eve x288
Please help us out with a few more changes. Just got off a meeting with Responsys implementation folks and discussed with Product Mktg internally about product versions and timing: a) remove "Add us to your address book" near the top. We'll determine our operations for that shortly, but not ready right now so we'll integrate into second newsletter sendout next month. b)Add a footer at the bottom. I thought this went into a separate Footer box in the email system, but now that we are able to get into the system and talk with the Responsys team, they suggested we program it to the bottom of the HTML email (below the line). Fine print in light gray small font: You're receiving this email because you subscribed to receive email newsletters and information from Mozilla. If you do not wish to receive these newsletters, please Unsubscribe here. (link "Unsubscribe" to Responsys unsubscribe link - TBD) Read the Mozilla Privacy Policy ("Mozilla Privacy Policy" links to http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/privacy-policy.html) Mozilla 650 Castro Street, Suite 300 Mountain View, CA 94041 2) Save a second version of this HTML email (call it "Version C") with just one change. The change is to the "Firefox Health Check", please change the graphic to be Firefox 3.6.9. (Version A of the email will show 3.6.8). The reason is that the timing for sending this newsletter out next Wed. Sept 8 is very tight with the version change (forecasted for Sept 7), and we'll grab the correct version of the email (Version A or Version C) on Wed. and send it out. We'll hold Version B (beta story) for use for next month (call it the October newsletter) and we can update content areas shortly. Hope that's not confusing. thank you!
One reminder: In the HTML Email version for sendout, please make sure that the header items "Follow us (Twitter) (Facebook) (Envelope)" are programmed up in HTML as part of the newsletter. (We won't be entering those into a separate header field or anything, it should be programmed up as part of the newsletter). I had thought it might go into a separate header field, but no. Perhaps you have that covered already. Thank you!

The text changes from comment #2 are done in trunk in r73563: http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/about/newsletter/template/
This is version "C" of newsletter. We also need Version "A" of newsletter staged up, which has Firefox 3.6.8 in the download for the health check. What do you recommend for URL where to stage it? we're so close to the product update day (Sept 7 possibly) for switching from Firefox 3.6.8 to 3.6.9. Appreciate your advice on this. We need to load both versions of the final HTML art into the system on Friday to test it out with sample test emails, so need both version A and version C of newsletter ready in HTML and web versions. Version A of Mainstream Newsletter: shows Firefox 3.6.8 for health check button Version C of mainstream Newsletter: shows Firefox 3.6.9 for health check button Thanks so much.
We'd love to load the final HTML art for both Version A and Version C into Responsys system tomorrow, or Thursday latest, for our internal and small group testing. Also we have to get the URL for the "unsubscribe" link (from Responsys) and forward to you. Hope to get that tomorrow, or Thursday latest. Please check that all links are active (Twitter, Facebook) and so will we. thank you!

(In reply to comment #3) > One reminder: In the HTML Email version for sendout, please make sure that > the header items "Follow us (Twitter) (Facebook) (Envelope)" are programmed up > in HTML as part of the newsletter. The Facebook and Twitter icons are linked in r73680. What URL should the envelope icon link to?
Steve, after chatting with Jane this morning, we thought of a way to make this much simpler. Keep the existing version you have going in web and HTML. we'll go with one version. a) change the label on the last button in the "Health Check" story to say "Firefox" rather than "Firefox 3.6.9". b) Then underneath the button, in gray font, put the words Version 3.6.9 (English) as text. In this way, I'd have the ability to change it on the fly the day of the email campaign if we are still using 3.6.8. We think that is an easy solution of how to handle. Link for that button still goes to the Firefox download page, which also mentions the latest version. So we'll be in synch on that. c) In the "Today's Tip" story on sidebar: "Get That tab..." - change to "Get that tab..." (small t in "that") d) In the Firefox Health Check story: Please fix the typo in browsing (it says "brow-sing") e) Connect links for Twitter and Facebook, locate at the top f) Connect link for Unsubscribe (I WILL SEND YOU WHEN AVAILABLE) g) To Footer: - Add this phone number underneath the Mozilla address: (650)903-0800 - Change zip code to zip plus four in address: 94041-2021 - Add copyright statement at the beginning of the fine print before the "You're receiving this email..."language : (c) Copyright 2010 Mozilla Corporation. Content available under a Creative Commons share-alike license v2.0 h) Envelope icon: let me find out the operations on that. I thought that was a common HTML code to "open up a new email" with a pre-populated mozilla email address in it. Let me check on it asap. thank you!
h) Envelope icon: sorry I mis-spoke, I think its intended to open a new email for sharing with a friend. Let me send you more info on that shortly. thank you!

The "Read this in your Browser" is to be put on the HTML Email version only (the one we send out), and it links to the Mozilla web page version that has the newsletter. (Do you know what that final URL is, Steve?) Way to find out?

We'll need the final Mainstream newsletter in two formats: a) HTML version (doc) that we upload into Responsys from my hard drive into the campaign building area b) web page version (people that don't care to read it in the email can click "Read this in your browser" and read it there instead). Thank you!

Steve, can you please send me the latest and greatest version of the actual HTML Email (send it to me in email as an attachment) so I can send to Responsys contact for a deliverability and email client rendering test? We've made quite a few changes from the last version two days ago, and I'd prefer that he run the test tomorrow on our latest version, even if not everything is complete. It will give us an early heads up on any issues. thank you!

I've moved some of the files around for a better URL structure (r73718). The final URL for the mailing has been added in r73719. It is: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/about/newsletter/2010-09/ I'm open to suggestions on the URL structure. If we do more than one per month, we can always add the day, or /2010-09-A/ etc. (In reply to comment #16) > One more tiny edit - In the last paragraph "Keep Your Firefox Happy", please > add a period at the end, after "...secure version." I had noticed that and got it fixed in r73686.

Merged all changes for this newsletter from trunk to stage in r73734. Alex, can you push to production? Also, the mailing references images from mozilla.com. Should it be referencing the images from the CDN?

One or two more edits after internal reviews here today: a) Please remove the envelope icon (in the header / above the body of the message) and move the remaining header items (follow us on twitter and facebook) a little more to the right, to align with right margin. b) Please change the copyright line to say just this: Content licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution Share-Alike License v3.0 or any later version. (remove copyright , date, mozilla corporation stuff) c) Please remove the blank line underneath the copyright statement and above the other language. Need these changes on both the HTML Email as well as the correponding web page. Thank you!

In the web version of the newsletter, we won't need the phrase "Read this in your browser" in the header, of course. That is just used for the HTML Email creative that we send out. (You might have thought of this already, but it is showing up in the web version I am seeing). thank you.

One more edit: Please add small (R) as a superscript for registered trademark in two spots in the subheadline of the top art banner. So it will read : From Mozilla(R), a non-profit organization and developer of Firefox(R). Just those two spots is fine, it does not have to be throughout the piece.

I just did a proof test of this email campaign in the Responsys system (using the draft art from 2 days ago), and a few things came up. I'll try it again with the final art, but we need a few edits: a) The right menu items - they did not click to right place, pleaes change to anchor tags (says Jay). Intended to navigate the viewer to that story on the same page. If we can't get that programmed in for any reason, then we'll go with just text (not critical). b) Fix little typos - Some symbols are showing up mysteriously - (second sentence "It's great to meet you... the "It's" is coming out as symbols) - typo in "Today's Tip" box : it is showing up as"... you’ll be back in business." (rather than you'll be back...) c) link at the bottom called "Develop for Firefox" - please change the link to go to this URL for MDN rather than previous one for Dev docs: https://developer.mozilla.org thank you!

One more thing - when I view the test from the previous creative in different email clients (through Firefox browser) they all look great except Gmail version. I tested yahoo, hotmail and mozilla.com emails, as well as gmail. The top banner is bit white patches in it, and the graphics look too large for the right sidebar boxes. Here is a screenshot (attached) so you can how the gmail version looks, in case there is any ability to fix it. The other email clients look great. Let me know.

Steve, the registered trademark in the subheadline (in the top banner) is not turning out right, it is looking like a regular R with brackets. (I think the HTML code for this is ® to make the small r symbol inside a circle, etc. ).

Steve, here are a few additional thoughts from the folks at Responsys once they ran the rendering test: - It looks like the column on the right side is not rendering properly. It may be our tool, so we recommend checking manually in the email clients that didn't render the column properly. - Table with bgcolor c0e0eb was coming up as invalid, same with f3f2f1. Just need to double check the value is correct. - Move styles inline versus in the <head> section of the email (this was causing some of the emails like gmail not to render properly) - Make sure to encode & symbols in HTML (line 398 in the code) - Using height=100% on tables makes the email extend the length of the possible window, so this accounts for some of the odd height displays Thank you for looking at these today as quickly as possibly, trying to run all tests and fixes today so we can send out the newsletter tomorrow morning ... Or Call me on cell and we can discuss at (415)939-0303. Thanks so much. -Eve

Steve, I've been running some HTML email tests, and the anchor tags on the right menu are not working. They work in some email clients but not in others, so lets just change it to be static (and not anchor tags). And thank you for finding a replacement helper if you are out tomorrow, many thanks!

Most of the issues were fixed (to my knowledge) in r74128. I'm unsure what this one meant: "Table with bgcolor c0e0eb was coming up as invalid, same with f3f2f1. Just need to double check the value is correct." It looks ok to me, perhaps someone was looking at an old version of the newsletter?

If we need them, a README with an explanation would be nice. QA hasn't signed off on this. I'd appreciate if they check this before I push it live

I've eye-balled the site and tested the links -- all's fine there; I haven't followed the many changes from comment 2 - comment 55, though. Signing off from QA's side, but only on a technical level, and only on http://www-trunk.stage.mozilla.com/en-US/about/newsletter/2010-09/; I haven't been looking at alternate version of the HTML newsletter, as I haven't been asked to. Removing "qawanted," but holding off on "push-needed" until we're comfortable with the changes.

The -verbose version of the file has all of the styles retained in the header instead of inline for ease of editing on our/anyone's end. The -verbose file really doesn't need to exist anywhere publicly facing and is probably badly named. It isn't required for anything other than updating/editing.

Whatever is easiest, but a README would be nice, to explain why it's there, please.
