IMAGES SENT AS ATTACHMENT(S) WILL NOT DISPLAY. VIEWER BEING USED IS IRFAN VIEWER WHICH IS SPECIFIED IN ATTACHMENT APPLICATIONS??? IMAGES SENT WERE .JPG - THIS IS THE ERROR MESSAGE DISPLAYED: C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\Jan 2010 015.jpg could not be opened, because the associated helper application does not exist. Change the association in your preferences.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.PICS DO NOT DISPLAY WHEN EMAIL SHOWS PICS AS ATTACHMENTS???
2.PICS DO DISPLAY/OPEN AUTOMATICALLY WHEN EMAIL DOES N*O*T SHOW ATTACHMENT ICON WHEN EMAILS ARE DISPLAYED AS LIST???
3.PICS DO N*O*T DISPLAY AUTOMATICALLY WHEN MESSAGE IS OPENED EVEN THOUGH PICS SHOW BELOW MESSAGE PANEL WITH PROPER 3RD-PARTY ICON???
4.WHEN ICONS ARE DOUBLE-CLICKED - THE FAILURE MESSAGE (ABOVE) WAS DISPLAYED???



SHOULD HAVE DISPLAYED ALL PICS AS WITH ALL PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF T'BIRD???

Please don't use all caps. It is seen as shouting and isn't very nice to read.

It seems like your system is configured incorrectly. I would start off by going into options and looking under Attachments and seeing what you've got set up there for .jpg attachments.

THANK YOU AND APOLOGIES MARK - I USE ALL CAPS TO REMEDY A VISION PROBLEM

BTW: THIS BUG FIRST OCCURRED USING THE LATEST VERSION OF T'BIRD INSTALLED THIS PAST WEEK: 3.1.2.

CURIOUSLY I DID CHECK AND FOUND IRFAN VIEW IS NOW PROPERLY SPECIFIED FOR .JPG's - APPEARS YOU HAVE TO CLOSE AND REOPEN T'BIRD TO MAKE PREFERENCE CHANGE TAKE EFFECT???

JPG's SENT AS ATTACHMENTS WILL NOW OPEN IN IRFAN BUT PREVIOUSLY .JPG's WOULD OPEN IN THE BODY OF THE MESSAGE PRIOR TO THIS UPGRADE?

IS THERE A T'BIRD PLUG-IN OR EXTENSION I SHOULD ADD/SPECIFY UNDER 'OPTIONS' FOR .JPG's TO RESTORE IN-MESSAGE OPEN CAPABILITY???

Please check your setting under
View>>Display Attachments inline and make sure it is checked.
That should then display image types known to Thunderbird without an external viewer.
.jpg .gif and .png should all display.
