Google uses the AOL Open Authentication API (OpenAuth) to sign in to AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). That's out of the scope of Firefox. If the authentication doesn't work that has to be solved by Google / AOL. https://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=61024
