Details

Bug 590468 added some optimizations to reduce the size of the chrome document
layer when the bottombox is visible.

Similar optimization could be added for when the sidebar is visible.
This might involve putting sidebar-box and sidebar-splitter in their own layer
and ensuring that layer is opaque.

With GTK, currently sidebar-box seems to be full of opaque content, but
sidebar-splitter is semi-transparent.
Severity: normal → S3

I think the layer attributes are all gone, so going to close this out.
