User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB; rv:1.9.2.8) Gecko/20100722 Firefox/3.6.8 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: Thunderbird 3.1 See http://www.netsultant.co.uk/TB_Menu_Bug.png Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Load Application To cycle... 2. Right click to uncheck 2nd checked 'Mail' toolbar 4. Appears as normal until application is next restarted. Actual Results: Application loads again with 2 additional 'Mail' toolbars Expected Results: Application should load with a single 'Mail' toolbar. This bug has disappeared and reappeared in previous versions. Although, I cannot be specific on version numbers. I suspect the bug is related to updates from legacy versions and a lack of 'clean up'.

Confirming and sticking on a radar as I know of two other computers that have this issue. Gary what extensions do you have installed?

Do you happen to have a version of McAfee installed?

Thanks for the confirmation. I have been looking at this today and have confirmed that it appears to be at least McAfee Internet Security suite that is causing the issue, there may be other versions available that also cause the issue, but this is the one I have been testing with. From what I can tell, McAfee is installing the following files into the Thunderbird installation directory (e.g. C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Thunderbird): chrome\msktbird.jar components\IMskTB.xpt components\MskTB.dll This is an incorrect way of extending Thunderbird and their extension is actually broken in Thunderbird 3.1 and also breaks the toolbars as a result. Removing msktbird.jar seems enough to fix the extra mail toolbars issue. Given that the functionality is already broken in 3.1, then you're not going to loose anything by that as far as I can tell. I shall be contacting McAfee shortly and explaining the issue to them and how to resolve it.

Your suggestion appears to have resolved the problem. I simply deleted the following file... chrome\msktbird.jar Propose: If this file is only related to McAfee, maybe check McAfee Add-on status and remove this file if not installed as a clean-up process of installer? The most recent McAfee Add-on was simply terrible and many will have undoubtedly un-installed it like myself. This clearly does not un-install cleanly. On first impressions, any seemingly 'wrong' GUI problems would certainly concern users with this problem who might choose to upgrade TB in future. Thanks for helping me resolve.

I have just installed McAfee Total Protection as a free upgrade as subscription was due for renewal. This issue came back as soon as McAfee installed. Method to resolve:- 1. Close TB 2. Remove files listed above 3. Reinstall TB

Update ====== We have been in contact with McAfee, and they confirm that they have now resolved the issue with their installation. They are currently expecting to release a fix to their issue with an update of software in December 2010.

McAfee deployed a fix in December and from my tests it seemed to be working fine. If there are outstanding issues, please inform McAfee.

yeah. in these cases, extra comments probably don't matter - I see now there's so few people watching them.
