User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US) AppleWebKit/534.3 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/6.0.472.51 Safari/534.3
Build Identifier:

Text entered in the URL and search engine text boxes gets highlighted and deleted before it can be entered. For example, if the string "www.google.com" is entered into the URL text box at the top of the Firefox screen, after each character is entered by the user, it becomes highlighted by the cursor and deleted. This also occurs in when using the search text box on Twitter.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Open Firefox to start page
2.Enter a single character into the search engine text box or URL text box, then pause
3.This character will be highlighted by the cursor without any user input
4.Type another character in the same box after the pause. It will overwrite the previously typed character, which is not the desired result
Actual Results:
Trying this myself shows the problem not to occur. However, this problem is intermittent, and has occurred previously in the past 48 hours using these same steps.

Expected Results:
After entering the first character, the cursor should remain at the previous point in the text box. Subsequent characters should be appended to the string, not overwriting previously typed characters. For example, typing "www.google.com" should result in "www.google.com" and not "m".

This bug was found using Firefox v 3.6.8 on Ubuntu Karmic Koala v 10.04. The theme is the default theme. I have also installed a calculator add-on.
Getting the same problem, randomly, but not only in the address bar, it also happens in the search box and in fields inside the webpage (when entering an email address or subject in Gmail for example).

Using Ubuntu 10.04 with firefox 3.6.8
Just noticed that switching to another application [ALT]+[TAB] and coming back to firefox fixes the issue.
This bug is occurring with Firefox 3.6.8 on Mac OS 10.6.5 and Ubuntu 10.04. Clicking a few times on a non-input part of the page usually stops it.
