Build Identifier: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:2.0b5) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/4.0b5

1) Since upgrade to beta 5 all website fonts appear unsharp.
2) Under extras - setting - content, the text size text is white on white !

Reproducible: Always
Since beta5 release, D2D and DW are enabled by default for Windows 7.
This is a DW issue.
I don't know if it already exists a bug for this kind of font issue.
Can you provide the Graphic info in "about:support" page ?
Component: General → Graphics
Product: Firefox → Core
QA Contact: general → thebes
Version: unspecified → Trunk
I have the same issue, in beta 4 i solved this bij setting gfx.font_rendering.directwrite.enabled to false.
With beta 5 this does not have any affect. So i'm back to beta 4.
I like to switch te beta 5 so how can i turn of this fuzzy awfull looking font?

thnx
Either disable cleartype on your system, or disable hardware acceleration altogether.

For disabling hardware acceleration, go into your options under the Advanced tab.

thank you.
There's something odd with scaling too.
Compare the box at top left of http://www.xkcd.com/ with and without hardware accel. enabled.

Not sure if this is the best place to add this or not as not familiar with the D2D / DW stuff. Please spin this off if necessary.
I hope it's a bug, why should i want to turn off cleartype for just firefox when everything els looks so much better leaving it on.

It's hard to say without a screenshot of the issue you're seeing and what you think is wrong with it :)
Thomas, MH,
Could you add several font issue screenshots as an attachment ? and the associated URL ?
Could you provide also your graphic card name and your graphic driver version ?

Charles,
Your font issue could be a dupe of bug 593024.
Hmm... for xkcd that may be right.
I've seen some other examples which I don't think have font-weight specified in such a way...
For item 1 of comment 0, I think it is a dupe of bug 590342
This accelerated font rendering bug described here looks like due to pixel offset issue.
Perhaps it is tied somehow to bug 601702 ?
I hope I have this with the correct bug.

I'm developing an HTML 5 in-browser eBook reader.

I've encountered a problem with our preferences text scaling in 4.0b6. The resizing works for the two smaller settings (10 pt & 12 pt text), but the browser hangs up if I select the larger settings. (Mac & Windows)

This works perfectly in Firefox 3.6.12 on Mac and in other browsers.

You can find the test page here:

To duplicate bug:

1) Click the right margin until you get to the body of the story
2) Click PREFERENCES
3) Change font sizes - first two work.
This bug is definitively a dupe of bug 590342.

Publisher,
Can you file a new bug about your hang issue? Don't forget to provide a stack trace: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/How_to_get_a_stacktrace_with_WinDbg

Sorry, I'm an HTML guy without this level of technical experience and I work on a Mac.
When I have to force quite, I can get a crash log and view the details. Is that helpful?

If so, do I post it to the bug 590342 thread?

Thanks for your help.
