I'm using W7.  Thunderbird 2.0 runs ok.  When I try to update to T3, it won't connect to live.mozillamessaging.com.  When I uninstall and reload T2 it runs OK.

so you didn't write down the message you got when it tried to connect ?

What happens if you try again to Help -> Check for updates ? do you get the issue ? If so can you look into Tools -> Error console and copy paste the errors at the end of it.
