Are you sure you've set the drafts to go to the draft folder not the sent folder ?

I have the same issue. My TB has Tools-Options-General-Auto Save set to 5 minutes. While composing an email on an IMAP server, the dialog box pops up: "There was an error copying the message to the Sent folder. Retry?"
Your options are then "Yes" and "No". Clicking "No", the dialog box is taken down and nothing else seems to happen. Clicking "Yes", the dialog box is taken down, and the partially composed message is sent. A copy of the message as sent is stored in whatever folder is designated to store sent messages. On my desktop, that folder is "Sent Items" for compatibility with Outlook 2007.
And, yes, I have set the drafts to go to the drafts folder, not the designated sent folder. To work around this issue, I have turned off AutoSave and I manually save the emails during composition. When I do it manually (Ctrl-S), the drafts go to the drafts folder as expected.
This is a duplicate of bug 594042, which I reported a while back. There are several different messages that describe errors copying to the sent folder when it is actually trying to save as draft, although it does actually try to send (instead of save as draft) on occasion. When it fails you can't tell the difference of what it was trying to do; when it succeeds you sometimes get a reply from the recipient related to the incomplete draft.
