I have the latest and greatest patched Free AVG. I have the latest and greatest Thunderbird. I can succeed to receive and send mail if I disable e-mail checking on AVG. While trying to login, Thunderbird uses almost 100% of cpu. Turn off AVG email scanning and Thunderbird gets the mail. ISP for e-mail is CenturyLink.com. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install Thunderbird. 2.Set up a user account. 3.Get and send mail - okay. 4.Install AVG Anti-virus Free Edition with E-mail Scanner enabled. 5.No longer can Get nor Send e-mail. Actual Results: Near 100% cpu usage. PC client and server mail client never finish shaking hands. No e-mail received. Expected Results: Peak in cpu usage and receive and send mail.

I have avg installed on my system and don't see this. Any special settings for AVG - that migth trigger this ? I'm going to close this as invalid as the issue ain't in TB. You should be able to get support at http://support.mozillamessaging.com and probably on AVG's site. I'll try to help here if you answer my questions too :D But this ain't a bug in TB.

please comment here, not by email :D Hi Ludovic, Thanks for checking. All settings are default for the failure. It could also be a problem at my ISP, CenturyLink. On AVG, the only change for success is to set E-mail Scanner to uncheck Scan Incoming Messages. Works okay with Scan Outgoing checked. If I find a safer solution, I will let you know. How did you setup thunderbird wrt to virus scanning ( there's an option somewhere) ...
