freezing the OS is a OS bug and never the fault of Firefox.
Please try http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode, is FF working better ?

Tried using the safe mode- not working
uninstalled all addon - not working
fresh installation - not working
The Beta 5 seems to freeze during browsing.
installed Firefox 4.0 beta 4, works fine without freezing. Does hardware acceleration could cause freezing. If yes how can I disable it.

Installed Firefox 4.0. First two days speed excellent!!
Then the browser got extremely slow. It seemed forever to load a page and sometimes it seemed to load the page over and over. There were times when the browser froze and I had to use the taskmaster to kill the browser.
It was so slow, that I had to download Firefox 3.6.16, uninstall Firefox 4.0, and install Firefox 3.6.16 before I could get a reasonable response time on the browser and report this behavior.
I am staying away from 4.0 until I hear that something effecting the slowness has been fixed

Willard C. Smith : Please create your own report after you tried the basic troubleshooting like the safemode and a new profile.
rajsudhakaran@gmail.com:
Sorry, I somehow missed your answer. The safemode disables already the hardware acceleration. Is this still a problem with ff4.0 final ?

My problem is with ff4.0 final. I downloaded it. After two days, the browser got so slow that I had to re-install ff 3.6.16 to get a reasonable product.
I am unfamiliar with your bug reporting mechanism.
My only concern was to offer some feedback my usage of ff4.0.
If you want to bury the problem, fine with me, I just won't upgrade.

Willard: A freeze or general "is slow is not specific enough that a developer can fix that.He doesn't know what's wrong.Thousands of people tested Firefox before the Release including the developers and they didn't get such problems or they would have fixed it.
That means that there is something special on your system and we must find the reason but that has to be done in your own report because you are basically hijacking this report from a different person. It's very likely that he had a complete different issue.

Works for me on:
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; rv:5.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/5.0
*Since the 4.0b5 was a beta build and not an official release, please check to see if the reported issue is still reproducible on the official final one. Marking this bug as Works for Me. Feel free to file a new bug on the issue if it's still reproducible on a Firefox 4 final build
