Open an email in a tabbed window.  Highlight some text in that message.  Go back to the message list, select any email, then type Ctrl-R to reply to that message.  What you will see is that the text below the "On xxx date, so and so wrote:" quote separator, the original message has been replaced with whatever you have highlighted in the other message!

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open any email in new tab
2. Highlight some text in that email
3. Go back to Message List and select any email then hit Ctrl-R to reply

Actual Results:  
In the new reply message, instead of the original text of the email you are replying to, the text below the Quote Separator line has been replaced with the text you had highlighted in the other message!

Expected Results:  
The original email text should be shown below the quote line, it should not have been replaced with the highlighted text.

This was discovered when I had copied some text from an email to the clipboard to paste on some web page.  When I later went back to my email and hit Reply to answer a friend's message, I was shocked to discover his quoted text was now the same stuff I had copied to the clipboard previously.  I did further tests and discovered that it isn't related to the clipboard, simply highlighting some text in one tabbed message and then going to reply to any email will cause this to occur.

This WFM with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100915 Thunderbird/3.3a1pre.

Does it also happens if you open thunderbird in safe-mode (see http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) ?

I have seen something similar, without highlighting text an another message.

After reading several messages, if I try to reply to message currently open (I only open one message at a time) using the "Reply to message" icon in the tool bar, the text of the current message is replaced by text from a previously viewed message.

As far as I know I am using the default setup - I doncare about nonsense like "stypes" etc. I just want to receive and send email.

And if you do not, please close bug report by changing resolution to worksforme

This bug is not fixed. I have found the same problem exists in Thunderbird 38.6 on XP.

I highlighted a portion of text and pressed Cntrl-C to copy it. Without removing the highlight, I went to reply to the message and was somewhat surprised when the message history had disappeared, and had been replaced by the text that I'd copied !
