In 2-pane mode, windows open as 3-pane, then change to 2-pane. (See bug 468117)

But sometimes, OSE stops at the intermediate step. When this happens, other weirdness results. You will be unable to move ahead/back between messages in another window, for example

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open a mailbox window from Mailboxes or topbar



Actual Results:  
2. Window STARTS to open, but hangs halfway

Expected Results:  
Window opens in 2-pane, showing messages.

It seldom if ever occurs if you instead open the mailbox from a toolbar shortcut.
