Mozilla/5.0 (Android; Linux armv7l; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100916 Firefox 4.0b7pre Fennec/2.0b1pre

Received a message indicating that the updater timed out (office Wi-Fi fail), while downloading 20100917, but haven't found a way to check for updates again.

There should obviously be a way to check for updates again should the updater fail

As of right now, we don't want to expose any UI for checking for updates. The update check should happen at the next app.update.interval (usually the next day)

If this becomes a problem for typical users, we can try something else.

I'm seeing this issue as well. Re-opening for the following reasons:

1. Network drops stop the download process
2. We don't offer a way for users to get to our ftp directories via Fennec
3. No coverage for users on beta and release versions of Mobile Firefox on Android (i.e. they shouldn't be forced to manually download the build when they already decided to automatically update and didn't get it).

I'd also toss in that discoverability of the pref app.update.interval is unknown

The user doesn't need to touch the pref. What finkle was saying was that the user will be offered the update again in X seconds, where X is defined by app.update.interval.
since the user will be re-offered the update eventually we aren't going to expose UI for forcing the check as of now.
