User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.0; nl; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100914 Firefox/3.6.10 ( .NET CLR 3.5.30729) Build Identifier: 3.1.4 Usually I put focus in the message pane so I can scroll the messages up and down with the keyboard. I use shortkeys N, F, and B to move to other messages. Since Thunderbird 3.1 a summary is shown when I move to a new thread. From that moment Thunderbird doesn't respond on any key I type. I have to make the list pane active, or use the mouse, to go to the next message. This is very annoying. best regards, Erwin Waterlander Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. make message pane have focus 2. move to a new thread, using keys, a summary is shown 3. try keys N, F, B, <righ arrow>. Actual Results: Nothing happens. That is the problem. Expected Results: Same results as when the list pane has focus. N: move to next new message. F: one message forward. B: one message backward. <right>: unfold thread. .

Works for me with Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; Intel Mac OS X 10.5; rv:2.0b7pre) Gecko/20100915 Thunderbird/3.3a1pre. Can you try in safemode (http://support.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/kb/Safe+Mode) ?
I'm running a Dutch Thunderbird 3.1.4 on a Dutch Windows Vista. Where can I get 3.3a1pre? Can you reproduce it with Thunderbird 3.1.4? I will try safe mode. regards, Erwin
this happens to me too, and is a dup of a bunch of other bugs about keyboard shortcuts not working. The issue has to do with focus going away from the message/thread pane when making the transition between summary view of multiple messages) and viewing a single message. I see it most often just deleting messages when processing incoming mail and landing on a collapsed thread.

The problem is also there in safe mode. Like David describes, hitting delete and landing in a summary is the easiest way to trigger the problem.
Ludo, if you just put focus in the message pane, with a message displayed, and press delete, such that the next thing that's loaded is a collapsed thread, you'll see the issue right away.

Doesn't work with backspace I suppose cause I can't reproduce with that on trunk (though)
